The weather in Atlanta has finally cooled off....we had such a wet and humid summer this year, it's finally nice to see some cool windy days to change the season up! As Thanksgiving approaches next week and Christmas holiday being right around the corner, our customers start to think about using that fireplace once again.
Usually the focal point of many living areas, the fireplace tends to be the most underutilized feature in everyone's home. Living in relatively newer homes (compared to other cities), folks in Atlanta have the advantage of a supply of natural gas furnaces to be the main supply of heat when needed. This puts alternative sources of heat at home (like fireplaces) on the back burner.
Using your fireplace can really add TONs of ambiance and really make your home feel "warmer". Many of our clients have turned away from storing and burning wood in pre-fabricated fireplaces for the use of gas logs. Burning wood can be fun and turn into a great hobby...but defintely requires time, patience, and maintainence to be sure you get the benefits of a fireplace done safely.
Using vented gas logs in a wood burning fireplace is great way to add extra radiant heat and fireplace wood feel without the smell, smoke, and sparks of a traditional wood burning fire. This year, we have a set of realistic fiber ceramic gas logs called the Woodland Timbers supplied by Hargrove. The Woodland Timbers has a radiant heat riser to capture and put more radiant energy into your home, mean while combusition air continues to move up the chimeny. Compared to our traditional clay ceramic vented logs, the Woodland Timbers set truly puts more intense radiant energy into the house....it's really amazing how much the fiber material works.
As with any fire being burnt in the fireplace (either wood burning or gas logs)...you should always be sure to stay with the fire. Vented gas logs have a lot of positives compared to burning wood....however, fire is fire...and when using gas logs you should never turn your back on the fireplace while the log set is working. Unlike burning wood, gas logs are being constantly supplied by the burning fuel (by pressure) which could be an hazardous issue if something goes awry.
If you are thinking about using vented gas logs in your empty fireplace, feel free to stop by the store and check out the new Woodland Timbers set, I think you will be impressed with the heat. We also can help educate you on using your fireplace wisely this holiday season.
See you at the store!
